Competitor intelligence

VocxAI can find out who you're really competing with, scan what they ship, and compare it against every theme in your backlog - so a feature request reads as a genuine gap, a parity play, or a real differentiation bet, not just a guess.

AI web research, not ground truth. Competitor scans read a competitor's own site and G2 profile with an AI research pass. Treat what comes back as a strong starting point - review it, especially before it shapes a roadmap decision.

How it works

Competitor intelligence is a pipeline with a deliberate pause for human review before anything expensive happens:

  1. Tell VocxAI your product's URL. On the Competitors tab, enter your website and (optionally) a one-line description of what you do.
  2. Automated discovery runs. VocxAI reads your product page and searches the web for your most direct competitors, returning each as a suggestion with a one-sentence rationale.
  3. You review before anything is scanned. Nothing is analyzed automatically - each suggestion sits as pending until you Confirm or Dismiss it. You can also add a competitor manually at any time, whether or not discovery has run.
  4. Confirming triggers a scan. Once confirmed, VocxAI fetches that competitor's site and G2 profile and extracts the product features it finds.
  5. Themes get matched against it. Every theme built from your customer signals is compared against each tracked competitor's known features.
  6. Results roll into five views - Competitors, Validated gaps, Competitor mentions, Feature matrix, and Offensive opportunities - each covered below.

You can edit a tracked competitor's name or URL, remove one, or trigger a rescan at any time - the list is never locked once discovery has run.

Competitors

The entry point for the whole feature, and the only tab where you take action rather than read results.

You don't need discovery at all - the Add competitor button in the top right adds one manually with just a name and URL.

Validated gaps

Themes built from your own customer signals where at least one tracked competitor already ships it and you don't. This is the most defensive view - it's where customers are actively comparing you to something that already exists elsewhere.

Validated there's customer signal behind it - someone has asked for or referenced this.
On roadmap the theme has already been promoted to a feature.
Monitor a competitor has it, but no customer has asked for it yet - worth watching, not yet worth building.

Each gap shows which tracked competitors have it, how many customer signals reference it, and a representative quote where one exists.

Competitor mentions

A separate, lighter-weight signal from the rest of this feature: every incoming customer signal (a support ticket, a call transcript, a review) is scanned for a tracked competitor's name. When one shows up, it's logged here with the excerpt and which competitor was mentioned.

Two things worth knowing about how this behaves:

Feature matrix

A single table: every customer-signal theme as a row, every tracked competitor as a column, and a cell showing whether that competitor has it, partially has it, or doesn't. Your own status comes from the same codebase feasibility check used elsewhere in VocxAI, so "You" reflects what's actually built, not what's on a roadmap.

A row only appears once that theme has been through a competitor comparison pass - the matrix is a rollup of the same underlying data as Validated gaps and Offensive opportunities, just laid out for side-by-side scanning rather than one gap at a time.

Offensive opportunities

The inverse of Validated gaps: themes with real customer demand behind them where none of your tracked competitors ship anything close. These are differentiation bets - features you could ship that nobody you're tracking currently offers.

An opportunity needs two things to appear here: a theme with at least one real customer signal, and a completed comparison pass that found zero matching competitor features. A theme with no customer signal at all won't show up here even if no competitor has it either - this view is about validated demand, not just gaps in the market.

When to expect results

Each part of this feature runs on a different clock:

If a tab still looks empty well after adding a competitor, check that competitor's status on the Competitors tab - a scan that failed shows as an error there rather than silently producing nothing.
